Divorce Talk with Michelle
Divorce can feel like the end of everything you thought you knew—but it doesn’t have to be.
Welcome to the very first Divorce Talk with Michelle blog post, based on my debut YouTube episode. I’m Michelle Smith, certified as a divorce coach, and I’m here to give you real talk, steady guidance, and practical strategies to help you not just survive divorce—but rebuild a life you love.
From Chaos to Purpose
Like many of you, I never imagined divorce would be such a central part of my life. But I’ve lived it—twice. Both experiences were different, yet they had one thing in common: trauma.
I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by stress, fear, and heartbreak. But I also know that healing is possible. Over time, I discovered that the chaos I went through could actually become a driving force to help others move through divorce faster, smoother, and with more confidence than I did.
What Exactly Is a Divorce Coach?
You might be wondering, What is a divorce coach, anyway?
A divorce coach is a strategic partner who helps individuals:
- Manage the emotional, legal, and financial challenges of divorce
- Work alongside lawyers, mediators, and financial planners
- Set forward-focused goals for custody, finances, and life after divorce
We don’t replace therapists, lawyers, or mediators—we complement them. Our role is to keep you steady, focused, and moving forward when everything feels like it’s falling apart.
My Divorce Journey
Here’s the unfiltered truth:
- I’m a child of divorce
- I’ve been divorced twice
- My eldest daughter is now a divorce lawyer (to heal her inner child wounds from divorce!)
- I’ve unofficially coached countless friends through their divorces because, when you’ve walked through fire, people know you can help guide them out.
My first divorce was a high-conflict battle full of custody disputes and financial stress. My second was an exhausting attempt at blending families that left me stuck in resentment and rumination for years, and drinking way too much!
Both taught me hard lessons—but those lessons are now tools I use to help my clients.
Lessons I’ve Learned
Here are a few takeaways from my own journey:
- Divorce, like life, isn’t always fair
- Therapy is powerful—don’t skip it
- Letting go of what you can’t control is freeing
- Rumination and blame only keep you stuck
- Giving up alcohol gave me clarity and strength
- Most importantly: divorce doesn’t have to suck!
Even if it feels impossible right now, the clouds will part, and the sun will shine again.
Why I Started Divorce Talk
I launched Divorce Talk because I want to help you get to the other side of divorce with confidence. My promise to you:
